The University of Oregon Campus. The University of Oregon is marked by its interesting architecture, with many of the buildings on campus dating back to 1876. The inviting 295-acre campus is notable not only for its architecture, but for the peaceful, tree-lined footpaths, beautiful landscaping and an arboretum that boasts more than 500 species, including 3,000 tree specimens. AUniversity of Oregon Museums. The University of Oregon is well known for its four fabulous museums. The Condon Museum of Geology houses more than 50,000 specimens including animal and plant fossils, skulls and skeletons of birds, reptiles, amphibians, and fish. The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art is the second largets art museum in the state and offers a collection of American, European, African, Korean, Chinese, and Japanese art, Russian paintings, and Rodin sculptures in its 14 galleries. The Museum of Natural and Cultural History offers a detailed look at the history of Oregon’s culture and natural history through exhibitions featuring 500,000 objects, including artifacts, fossils, animals, plants, and more. University of Oregon Football and Athletics. The University of Oregon’s legendary Autzen Stadium is home to the Pac-10 Oregon Ducks football team. With a seating capacity of up to 54,000 fans, Autzen Stadium recently underwent an $80-million renovation that included the addition of 32 luxury suites and two private clubs. UO’s world renowned Hayward Field was built in 1919 and is one of best-known track-and-field stadiums, offering a seating capacity of 10,000. The facility has played host to a variety of events, including three Olympic Trials, NCAA championship games, National Pro meets, and the USA’s track-and-field championships. The University of Oregon features an impressive 128,000 square-foot student recreation and fitness center with indoor multi-purpose courts, an indoor track, weight training and fitness facilities, a rock-climbing wall, two swimming pools, indoor and outdoor basketball courts, volleyball courts, badminton courts, and tennis courts.
